Where can my friend search to find teaching jobs in Austin, Texas?

Where can my friend search to find teaching jobs in Austin, Texas?
I have a friend who is looking to move, and he wants to teach. He is certified and has an education degree, and is looking for jobs in Austin, Texas, but doesn't know where to look. Should he contact schools directly, or is there an online registry? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I'd say look up the city's school board website. There's usually job postings on the their site.

2
Have him check on yahoo jobs. If nothing there look on yahoo yellow pages for schools and have him call there.

3
Apart from major job websites like Monster, Hotjobs and Careerbuilder where your friend could apply for jobs and post his resume online,he could also search for jobs on websites like Craigslist, Simply Hired and Indeed. Check this out for more information http://www.pcworkathome.net/jobwebsites.html

4
You should look into Austin ISD, then go to Human Resources. Also find out the schools around the neighborhood and go directly to there websites. Good Luck

Yes, there are online registries, but most of them are national. He could also check out local school district web sites and he might find a few job postings. BUT the best way to do it is to call the schools directly. Many districts don't advertise all available positions. If they have many candidates' paperwork on file, oftentimes they don't advertise openings at all. If he calls the schools directly he can ask if there are any openings. Also, if possible, he should send a letter of interest directly to the principals of schools in addition to human resources. There's a helpful eBook about finding teaching jobs-- http://www.iwantateachingjob.com . It has information about applying for teaching jobs, finding jobs, interview tips, etc. Good luck.

I'm now a junior in high school, and I want to go to school for some type of buisness. I have my cosmetology license, and I would like to ultimately start my own salon. I really want to go to school in Austin, Texas. I love the city and the people there. If anyone knows of any good schools or buisness programs, please let me know.

Is University of Texas Austin really that great?

Is University of Texas Austin really that great?
Or is it just football hype... Why is that UT and A&M are the only recognized public universities in Texas? What about University of North Texas? Everyone knows Texas State is the party school, so does that place have any real value? I've been at a community college for a year, and its time to transfer next fall. UT is just SO large... I hate the campus.

There are plenty of really good public schools in Texas that aren't too big. If you'd like to find a smaller school, do some research, visit some campuses and get a feel. You'll find one you really like. You'll see. I attended the University of Houston. Good school, but it's big. My niece recently graduated from Texas A & M University Corpus Christi with a nursing degree. She says that it's a great school. She landed a great job, right away. Yes! The University of North Texas is a really good school. Visit the campus. Look around. Talk to people. Ask: What can they offer me? What facilities do they have for students in my major?

Is UT Austin considered a good school? Is it prestigious nationwide and worldwide? What have you heard about it?

Well I am from Texas so something would be wrong if I have not heard of it. :) It is a good school and if you are liberal, it is the place to be. I think they have like a 50% acceptance rate. Many students who are in the top ten percent apply there because in the state of Texas, any student who graduated from a texas high school in the top 10% of their class, automatically gets in. It is kinda like a public Yale, Duke, Harvard, etc without the low acceptance rate. That is my opinion though. It is prestigious nationwide, but I do not know about worldwide.

what are my chances in to getting into the University of Texas at Austin and switching majors ?
hey, i want to get into the mccombs school of business at the university of texas at austin, and since i know that i am out of state it will be harder. So how hard is it to switch your major at the University of Texas to business. Which major should i declare to increase my chances since im out of state.

Hey fellow Longhorn! All I know is that switching into the business school is pretty difficult, but perhaps possible. Especially since you're out of state, you might want to go to the website and e-mail some of the advisors about your situation. They can give you a more exact answer. What college are you in right now? Good luck getting in!!! Hook 'em!

2
You can transfer into McCombs after one year if your gpa is above the internal transfer cutoff. Typically that's about 3.6, which is relatively high but should be doable if you work hard. You also need to take calculus, economics, and a foreign language before you transfer. You can read all about the requirements for an internal transfer on the website. Your major doesn't matter, just be sure to get good grades in your classes and you'll be in.

3
McCombs School of Business is highly competitive and extremely tough for non-Texas applicants. Check the transfer website on McCombs School of Business website for more info. Just a note, the average GPA is around a 3.85 for transfers. Do a Liberal Arts major which would get you in the right direction for becoming a business major at UT-Austin.

You should start off in Liberal Arts-its the easiest to get into!

Will I get into the University of Texas at Austin?

Will I get into the University of Texas at Austin?
I go to a class 5-A high school in Texas. I have a 4.00 GPA and I am taking the SAT next week. Based on what I scored on my practice tests I am expecting a 1490 or higher. I am ranked 95 out of 573 students in my graduating class, which is around the 16th percentile.

Anyone live in Austin Texas and drive to San Antonio to attend UTSA?
I want to live in Austin Texas but go to UTSA to get my MBA. I was wondering if anyone did that drive and how it is. I think it would be about a little over an hour. Does anyone trip this trip for school and have any ideas for me. I want to live in Austin because I can live with family for cheap vs. an expense apt. Please help.....Thank you! :)

Back in the 80s I lived in northern San Antonio (281 and Bitters) and commuted to Austin (Airport and 56th). Took me about an hour and 40 minutes, back in the days of the 55mph speed limit. Think of this: You'll be putting wear and tear on the car, and have to pay for gas and oil changes. Back then (dinosaurs walking the earth and such) I was putting 175 miles a day on the car going back and forth. Five days a week, did this for six months. Got to hate it. I was pumping in nearly 7 gallons of gas a day. Figure 50 cents a mile for gas, oil, maintenance, repairs, depreciation. That's $87.50 a day. I don't know how many days you'll be going a week, but multiply by that, and figure it over the two years you'll be doing your MBA. Unless you live in south Austin and average 90 it'll take longer to get to UTSA than you think. Figure an hour and a half to be safe. Also remember that is nearly three hours a day you'll be on the road. Not good for all the studying and projects you'll need to do. I just looked at student housing. Geez, times have changed from my college days. Weigh the benefits versus the problems.

2
It's approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from Austin to UTSA when the traffic is good (it can get pretty ugly on I 35). If you're having to commute on a daily basis, I would think it would get tiresome pretty quickly. If you will only be commuting 2 or 3 days a week, it would probably be fine.

Texas Tech, UT Austin, UT Dallas?

Texas Tech, UT Austin, UT Dallas?
I am currently attending UT Dallas, but Its really getting boring here ( I'm a commuter ) and I'm thinking of transferring. My major is computer science and it is really tough, the professor is not helpful at all. Do you think it is a good idea to transfer to any of these schools? UT Austin Texas Tech UT Arlington can anyone from these universities comment on the level of difficulty, the professors there? I know it is hard to get into UTA. What is UTD's reputation like , do you think it is a good school?

I would go to Austin if you can get in.

It's generally agreed that UT-Dallas has the best computer science program in Texas -- McDermott ensured that from the financial side. A&M also has a great reputation in computer science (they have the inventor of C++, among other things). I'm an honors student at UT-Austin, and our computer science program, I hear, is really good, too. Especially our honors CS program, the Turing Scholars. But I don't think you can get in to Turing Scholars once you've already started college. So of the three that you listed, UT-Austin is the place to go: Texas Tech and Arlington are weak, and don't have strong CS programs, at least, certainly not as strong as UT's. But UT -Dallas is supposed to have a better program than we do, so you might want to stick with it. Plus the fact that UT-Austin is so much more expensive. Keep that in mind, too, if that's an issue for you. Ummm, in terms outside of CS, I can tell you that life in Austin is way better than life in Dallas! Something for everybody, open-minded, and very relaxed. And it's not as hard to get in to UT-Austin through transfer as most people think; lots of openings are created from people dropping out because they got in with the top 10% rule from noncompetitive school and they can't handle or afford UTA. So there's a lot of room for transfers. My advice is to give it a shot.

Yes, she can finish her diploma, though maybe not at her former high school, but through an adult education program. One web site that offers distance learning, which is really convenient if you have access to the Internet, is: http://austin.about.com/od/adulteducation She may need to pay some fees, but she might be able to qualify for some state financial help. Good luck.

Tell her to forget about high school. Take the GED, and enroll in a Junior College. An Associate of Arts or Bachelor of Arts diploma will be much better to have on her CV. No one cares about high school.

Is University of Texas at Arlington a difficult school?

Is University of Texas at Arlington a difficult school?
My daughter wants to go to this school. She is pretty much "in" but we're waiting on the formal letter. Does anyone know how difficult this school is overall? Is it easier, so to speak, than University of texas at Austin, or is it just easier to get into? Thanks for ANY info you can give me on this school.

The curriculums of both schools are the same, as they are run under the same administrations. The only variations between the schools would be the personal teaching styles of the teachers, but nothing else would be different. Hope this helped. You gave way to much information already over the Internet .. Personal information is a NO NO, especially being 15. Work on your school and when your 18, then think about the job. GL

2
Why settle for just a job that pays so-so? Why not take an interest test? They are available at most community colleges. Once you know what would light your fire, find a business in that field and ask them if you could apprentice there over the summer. The pay WOULD probably be so-so, but there is also the chance for college credit in that field, maybe even a career opportunity for when you graduate high school. You seem pretty articulate. You shouldn't have any trouble at all finding a placement. If you lived in Roswell, I'd hire you in a minute, to promote my text messaging business. Be sure to ask the guidance counselor at your school how to go about getting a work permit. It will open doors for you. Best wishes!

I got into UTSA with no problem. I think it all has to do with how well they think you'll do as a student. And Austin is a cool town so lots of kids want to go there. All schools have their good and bad qualities.

2
Yes its a really good school to get into. Best school? I would say yes since it is definitely the most well known, and recognition attracts the best professors. With that being said, i remember reading somewhere that the average SAT scores of incoming freshman to UTD were higher than any other public texas university. A lot of reason that may be is because of the top 10% rule, a ton of people with amazing grades get turned away because spots are being filled by people with 3.4 GPA's who just so happened to go to a crappy high school which put them in the top 10% of said crappy high school. BTW i also went to UTD for EE, but transferred to UT Austin for Aerospace Engineering because EE was so boring it was driving me insane lol.

Primary, secondary or the college level? If you want your kids to get a great education in Austin, try and get into the Eanes School District. The high school in that district has made Newsweek's top 100 public high schools in the Nation, several times.

At least she asked about Austin. The kids in Round Rock are being home schooled, which is why they read at a 3rd grade level. Don't let the test scores fool you... the RR schools are doing great because none of the stupid Round Rock kids are actually enrolled.

if you live downtown it can be expensive, but it is cheaper than downtowns in other areas. i can personally tell you that it is cheaper here than in dallas, and i have never heard anyone else say it was more expensive here than elsewhere in texas

2
San Antonio is cheap to live in and because it's a tourist town Bartending is a great way to make money. Austin and Dallas can be pricey to live in and Houston just plain sucks...I've lived in all four so I have expereince in each. To clarify, Austin is not expensive compare to New York and Los Angeles, but it is one of the most expensive cities in Austin, property wise and since the question was what Texas city was cheapest, Austin would not be the answer.

3
I don't think Austin is expensive at all. I guess it is all relative. Compared to anywhere in New York, California, or Florida, living in Austin is dirt cheap. http://www.centralproperties.com

4
San Antonio is far cheaper than the bigger towns and more affordable when you can buy a house. You can always drive to Austin for the music and film festivals.
