I am aware of nasty weather all the way down to Texas. My wife and I are nervious. How do bus drivers get up to the minute reports of anything bad as far as weather goes that may be heading their way.

I would call the bus station and ask them if there is any new's on the weather conditions, and if there has been ,or could be any cancelations ?Ask them how you can be updated if any changes are made,or delay's !

So it might be a little late (not in the BAD sence), but: 1) I've traveled in a bus (yes, in Texas) while there was a tornado. The bus center headquarters place radioed our driver. That's what they do during bad weather, you really do not need to be worried. 2) The weather in Austin is okay right now (trust me, I live here), just some rain, and it rains all the time, so it is okay. You really do not need to be worried. I know, as a parent, this probably brings little comfort, but just know it is okay down here.

Your concerns are well founded. There have been some tragedies involving busloads of kids in the Texas Hill country during flash floods. Most of those accidents have taken place in the resort areas near the campsites on the Guadelupe River. There are places where the water goes over the road even when there's no flooding, but again, those locales are in the back woods. The high schools in Austin are situated in urban areas with good drainage. You don't have that issue to worry about, but I can't make any promises about whether or not he loses his tuba.

They are all good schools. Visit all three of them and see which one you fall in love with.

UT-Austin would be a great place for undergraduate business, but the McIntire school at Virginia is a top five undergraduate business school. The education at the two schools would probably be comparable -- however, there would be better job opportunities from Virginia. Wharton is the top undergraduate business school -- and one of the best (if not the best) MBA programs. It is highly selective, so employers know they will get good candidates. Therefore, the top companies come to Wharton to hire their undergraduates. In addition, Wharton students get a great education. They actually take the same classes that the MBA students take -- and tend to do better then the MBA students. There is no undergraduate business school in the world that I would recommend more highly than Wharton.

As far as I'm concerned, the courts and Guv. Dubya screwed everything up about a prestigious academic career in Texas. You make app with a pool assigned paperwork. Top 10% of ALL schools not top 10% of ALL pupils gets a chance at a state university whether you are ready or not. The courts ruled that grades alone do not form the criteria. The Aggies have a perverted delight in Algebra I, II, III, IV. The Longhorns have a social nightlife. The Aggies used to have better athletic scouts, but this top 10% for everybody has given the 'Horns more talent to choose from. Better Engineering school? About the same. The Aggies seem to have preserved their old brotherhood better than the 'Horns have.

U Texas Austin has the higher ranked engineering program, but both U Texas Austin and Texas A&M are top 15 programs. Your grades are good for both schools, but your SATs are just a touch on the lower end of the average for U Texas Austin. They're right in the average for Texas A&M. It is possible that you'd be accepted into both of them.

Best school district in Austin Texas.*more details inside*?

Best school district in Austin Texas.*more details inside*?
I was considering the eanes school district ( I am moving to austin this month) for my 13 year old daughter, going into 8th grade. I heard raving reviews about the district but when i then talked to a teacher over the phone the information she supplied me with ranted about how entitled the kids were, spending time at the mall 24/7, judging each other on the biggest house best car, etc.(exactly what were trying to get away from.) Her friend who worked there quit after 3 months because the children, excuse me, but made her want to throw up everyday. She also explained that the teachers are only average. Now hearing this I am at loss for ideas of the school I should put my daughter in. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Thats weird. :/ I heard Eanes was a pretty good school. My grandma is a teacher there for kindergartners. My cousins went to Murchison Middle school and they liked it a lot. I dont really know first hand though. Im going to be a senior at Dripping Springs Highschool and its only 15 minutes outside of Austin, but DSISD schools have a verrrrry good reputation education wise.

2
Yes, there are a a lot of stuck up, superficial kids. But, when it comes to academics Eanes is the best public school district in Austin. Austin ISD is not great at all. Maybe look into Lake Travis ISD, its about 10 minutes from Westlake(where eanes is).

3
Eanes is a great district but it's very expensive to live in the area. Austin ISD is horrible, so if you want the best for your daughter, I suggest finding something outside of Austin. Lake Travis is also good, maybe Pflugerville or Manor as well?

4
I found that the Baranoff/Bailey/Bowie area of AISD is a nice mix, good academics, but not too stuck up. It is in Shady Hollow area, which is West Slaughter/Brodie region of south Austin. Mine will be going into Bailey next year. Academic success begins at home, and regardless of where you attend school, you can get a good education.

5
Yes, Eanes tends to have that reputation -- entitlement, but academically, it is very strong. There are other school districts in the area that are highly rated. In Round Rock ISD, the Westwood high school feeder area is extremely highly rated, with Westwood being one of the top rated high schools in the country, plus it has a nice mix of students, ethnicities, cultures, economic backgrounds, academic choices (it is the fine arts academy for the district and an IB school) but it is TOUGH. My son took 13 AP classes, got a perfect score on the Math SAT and was not even in the top 10% of his graduating class of 2009.

The whole University of Texas branch is awesome for pre-med students!!! I attend the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa. Every 4 out of 5 students are accepted into a medical program. I have heard that every UT school has a good success rate for pre-med students. I am also a pre-med student...but i wanna go into gynecology!!! Try looking into newsweek polls. UT of Permain Basin is on there as one of tghe most sucessful schools i am sure UT Austin is on that list....Good Luck!!!

Actually, you don't need a degree to get into medical school. If you look at the pre-requisites, you only need 90 hours of specific coursework. I work at a local community college, and we have had several of our students go directly from here to UTHSC-SA for their medical training. Certain prescribed college courses and the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) are basic requirements for admission. The following prescribed courses must be completed with at least a “C” grade prior to matriculation. English: 6 semester hours Biology Lecture: 12 semester hours Biology Lab: 2 semester hours Inorganic Chem Lecture: 6 semester hours Inorganic Chem Lab: 2 semester hours Organic Chem Lecture: 6 semester hours Organic Chem Lab: 2 semester hours Physics Lecture: 6 semester hours Physics Lab: 2 semester hours College Calculus: 3 semester hours Biochemistry: 3 semester hours (substitute for 3 hours of Biology)
