The whole University of Texas branch is awesome for pre-med students!!! I attend the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa. Every 4 out of 5 students are accepted into a medical program. I have heard that every UT school has a good success rate for pre-med students. I am also a pre-med student...but i wanna go into gynecology!!! Try looking into newsweek polls. UT of Permain Basin is on there as one of tghe most sucessful schools i am sure UT Austin is on that list....Good Luck!!!

Actually, you don't need a degree to get into medical school. If you look at the pre-requisites, you only need 90 hours of specific coursework. I work at a local community college, and we have had several of our students go directly from here to UTHSC-SA for their medical training. Certain prescribed college courses and the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) are basic requirements for admission. The following prescribed courses must be completed with at least a “C” grade prior to matriculation. English: 6 semester hours Biology Lecture: 12 semester hours Biology Lab: 2 semester hours Inorganic Chem Lecture: 6 semester hours Inorganic Chem Lab: 2 semester hours Organic Chem Lecture: 6 semester hours Organic Chem Lab: 2 semester hours Physics Lecture: 6 semester hours Physics Lab: 2 semester hours College Calculus: 3 semester hours Biochemistry: 3 semester hours (substitute for 3 hours of Biology)
